I'm sorry ChattanCat, I'm blind, so there's no way for me to look at what you're trying to show me right now.

Ok, sounds like a rolled (millitary) box pleat.

Yep, a rolled military box pleat. I just checked a buzz kidder canvas kilt that I have, and the pleats are just wide enough to do that with if it were being constructed as a new kilt. Guess if I ever have a canvas kilt made for me by a kilt maker, I can just say do a rolled military box pleat that's fully sown in. Thanks for all ya's help.

Sounds like an interesting kilt. I'm also a fan of the military box pleat. I expect to be ordering one in Black Watch from Kathy Lare in the very near future. About 12 lbs from now to be exact. LOL

I originally was thinking that you could make extra wide pleats, then do the military roll pleat, but only to cover half the exposed pleat. That would give the pleats a 3D effect and also double the visual effect of the pleats. That is a little too much to deal with, so I'll just be happy if I can get a rolled military box pleat done in canvas with fully sown in pleats. I'll put that on the list and do the corisponding voodoo dance.

Also, if there is a way to make a canvas kilt with a regular box pleat, that would be kind of cool too, but I think the pleats have to be sewn in on a good canvas kilt. I don't know if that would work on a regular box pleat.

all of alanH's x-kilts are box pleated. They are typically made of something other than wool. Yes the pleats are sewn in though.
My corduroy Star kilt is box-pleated, with the pleats sewn in.

Thanks cloves, but I can tell now that I really don't know enough to be thinking about these things.

Guess this old thread is dead... I have found calm, soothing, inner peace with the Buzz Kidder canvas kilts, though. Perhaps some day someone will start making them with rolled military box pleats... Some day.

I'm going to store this link to Alan's X-Kilt thread here so I can find it again.
