Just a little update folks on what's happened since I last posted:
I spent my vacation time packing and moving my belongings to my new place. Moving is my least favorite activity in the world (no exaggeration) but I managed without any major issues.
I replaced the dead bolt after his last unannounced intrusion and didn't have any problems afterward. I was mostly after of peace of mind- which I got. So that I wouldn't have any issues getting my FULL deposit back I re-painted one room, vacuumed and cleaned the place from top to bottom. And when I say cleaned I mean CLEANED...appliances, floors, cabinets, tub, sink, etc. I left it cleaner and nicer looking than when I moved in.
So, I got a call from my former landlord New Years Day and he said he had trouble getting in the place that morning with his key. He asked, "did you change the locks"? I said yes and told him the keys, gate clicker and a copy of the lease were waiting for him in a drop box at his office. he asked me if I re-painted. I said yes; and not only did I re-paint but I cleaned the place thoroughly and gave him a list of everything that I cleaned and how. All he said after that was OK, he'd send the deposit as soon as he had a chance to look at the place and then he hung up. No "thanks". No "you've been a great tenant". No "Happy New Year". NO "F--- Off". No nothing.
Oh well, it's not like I expected anything from him and it won't change my day for the worse...I'm just surprised at the manners. I guess I was just raised differently.
Anyway, thanks for the advice everyone...I'm on to bigger and better things. Now excuse me while I get a whole new apartment complex full of people used to my kilting.

That's great that you were such a conscientious tenant and it's too bad he didn't recognize that fact. But I can't say I'm surprised. Then again, who cares? You're done with him! Congrats!
