from Toronto Ontario Canada. I like walking to the beat of my own drum so sporran tassles fit right in.

Congratulations on your first kilt. Once your wife realises how good you look in it I am sure she will want to see you wearing a kilt more often. Though if she is insecure she may be wary about you wearing it in public where it would attract other females of the species.

There's nothing like that first feel of freedom in a kilt - congratulations!

Congratulations and may it be the first of many more. Actually, you may be able to get your wife involved in your public kilted outings. Quite a few times when people ask the question, my wife will grab the helm of my kilt and say, "twenty dollars and I'll show you!" No, never had someone pay up!

I heartily suggest finding a venue where kilts are expected attire for the first couple of public outings. Something like Scottish Country Dancing (I only have English dancing in my area, but I'm not the only one in a kilt) or a Burns supper (end of January - contact a local pipe band for when and where) would be a very good event to start with, since you are not going to be feeling out of place in a kilt. Make it a date with your wife and see if you can get her into the spirit of it.
I live in a climate where I would be ill-advised to wear a kilt for about half the year. So, I have my twill kilt on when I am indoors and I switch to the weasel-squeezers when I'm going out. Come summertime, I will have the same kilt on outdoors a lot more often. The point is that not everyone can really wear kilts all the time. So don't feel that you have to be full-time-kilted in order to have a kilt. It is a garment. Some of the men here prefer kilts over any other form of legwear and are able to wear it full time. Hats off to them! I prefer the kilt, but with Alaska weather, I'm not likely to ever be full-time in this state!
Just be careful. Excessive kilt wearing can lead to a host of other problems. Possibly the worst being a compulsion to play bagpipes.

Ted, and all of you that wrote:
Thanks for the encouragement! Ted, my KNEES were cold for a while, till they went NUMB (!!!), but the rest of me fared just fine. It only takes about 10 minutes to walk out to check the mail and back, so wasn't out that long.

Sorry to hear about the problem My wife used to despise kilts too. Now she at least toerates it. We had a BIG argument over it. I hope that does not happen to you.
