Uses for Excess Tartan Material

Hi. This might be a crazy thought or a bad suggestion, so I'm very sorry if it doesn't make sense. If you are married, you could have a pin or even earrings made for your wife that have the tartan on it. I don't know if the tartan is the right size for this though. All the other suggestions are great though. Hope you come up with some interesting items.

sorry to be negative, but I think it unlikely enough for a tie. Traditionally they are cut on the bias, and you need a considerable amount of fabric just to make a single tie!, but perhaps if you have spare fabric it might be worth a try!!

Jamie, yes why not! it's worth a try (perhaps)
with my scraps especially the cut out bit from the back of the pleats, I'm machine stitching them together in a random fashion, not worrying too much about the edges, just to make a heavy rug blanket type thing, it's early days, and most of kilts are in tweed type fabrics, If ever I finish it I'll post a pic!!

You could make a lapel and cuffs for your favorite more formal kilt jacket. Evidently some makers of the newly invented Welsh surname tartans are doing this, but that need be no barrier.

There is a history of tartan lapels for mess jackets, so it wouldn't be without earlier precedent.

Similarly, you could add tartan to the cuff and tail button flaps of a Prince Charlie, in the Welsh style.

I've made a dog collar out of some leftover PV, and a pincushion as well (Elsie was always telling us not to throw away our loose and cut off threads, so they became the filling).

Exactly. I've wrestled with this over and over again.....never enough for a tie

I have, however created a tartan yarmulke for when my Klezmer band plays at Etz Chayim!
