By the way, Nighthawk, are you going to be... inflicting that wedding, or are you just observing? I haven't followed the details too closely. Good luck either way, and I hope you enjoy your visit.

    THAT day...back when...in Phoenix...wearing pants, shirt, tie...123 degrees F. Asphalt melted underfoot....

Summer is the time to market kilts in Phoenix...

There must be some common sense left in even the most smog addled brains down there....

Wearing pants is like tossing a blanket over your air conditioner.

OK- no, I will NOT be inflicting the wedding this time around- only attending. The Rev Nutjob is just an observer.

And folks, I will be in town on the morning of the 11th. I would LOVE to get together with the whole lot of you.

...so what kind of weather can I expect? Can I wear a tank or should I wear something lighter?

Nighthawk, that is the best time of the year as far as weather out here. A tank would be fine... SWK wool, what ever you want around that time. My best friend had a medieval/ren wedding in the first part of May a few years back and a lot of the people were wearing belted plaids. I was in a humble tunic because I was a hermit and I got to stab the rosted pig to begin the "Feast of Gluttony"...

The worst time is toward the end of June and into July because it isn't a dry heat any more as the rains come again.

** On second thought, see Retro Red's post down there on the weather. We all have sun madness over here and forget sometimes...

As a native Phoenician, I would like to add a caveat to Ted's comment that April "is the best time of the year as far as weather out here." While it's true that the average high temperature here in April is 84°F/28.9°C, which with the extremely low humidity is pleasant, it is not uncommon for us to have 100°+F/37.8°+C weather in April. In fact, the record high temp for April in Phoenix is 105°F/40.6°C. Dry heat or not, that wouldn't be very comfortable in a "tank," especially if it'll be an outdoor wedding. Plus, we're about 13-14 years into a really bad drought, so overall, it's been hotter than normal around here.

My suggestion is keep a tab on the weather forecast for Phoenix before you come out. If we're having a heat spell, bring a light colored cotton or hemp kilt instead of a 16-oz 8-yard wooly-bully. And if it is hot here then, a light-weight kilt provides great ventilation!

Look forward to meeting you when you come out!

Thanks for that! I'll bring a USAK semitrad along with my tank, just in case. I can't wait to meet the whole lot of you as well.
