As if there was not already enough tat on the Mile, eh? Oh well, if people are really looking for a cheap kilt, they now know where to find them. To each his own, I suppose.

Thanks for the link Phil, interesting read. I'd rather have one well made Scottish Kilt than 20 of those but I do realize it's hard to argue with the kind of success the tat shops enjoy.

The whole "cheap kilts" thing has become a real sweetheart issue for the media, hasn't it? The only thing that I can think of that even comes close is when a major US retailer was selling US flags that had been made in another country...hardly hard news now but at the time it raised a lot of eyebrows.
But the Gold Brothers and Lidl locked in mortal combat over who can sell the cheapest kilts? There was a "Peanuts" strip that I loved. Snoopy was laying on top of his dog house with the night sky behind him:
"Some nights, I lay up here and worry about a meteor falling out of the sky and hitting me.
Some nights, I lay up here and worry about a queen snake crawling up here and biting me.
And then some nights, I think about the meteor falling and hitting the queen snake.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz." as he contentedly drifts off to sleep.
The phrase, "The meteor hitting the queen snake" has become a staple around here.

The definitive answer here would be, "Yes".

I liked one of the letters:
They should be welcomed at £20 a pop as kilts have been way overpriced for ages. It's become awfy fashionable in the last 10 or 20 years to wear kilts at weddings, stag nights, plain old nights out and parties. It wasn't always this way I'm sure.
And ... bagpipes all over the place, aggressive beggars.
The best way to play the pipes is wi a pen-knife.
And that is from a Scotsman?![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

...and think of it...if the Gold Bros are selling those kilts for 20 pounds, they must still be making a profit on them...just how cheap are they?

To Quote the article:
"We've been selling cheap kilts for two or three years. Now Lidl are jumping on the bandwagon."
This kind of made me wonder too, quote:
"Mr Gold said he could "guarantee" that the kilts, which are manufactured in China, were good quality and had not been made using child labour. "There are a lot of people who can't afford £1000 or £500 for a kilt," he said."
I just don't know what to say.
