Tonight will be great, I'm sure. I wish so much I could be there for Chef's address to the haggis. But sadly, I can't come because of kiltmaking deadlines. I hope someone will take pictures and post them.

Just a quick note to those who might be wondering what to wear:
As I mentioned above, come as dressed as you are able (or willing) but come. Yes I haven't decided about PC or Doublet yet but that doesn't matter for anyone else. If all you have is a nice sweater then wear that. Also in case you are thinking about coming but haven't yet go your kilt (or if you have a friend who doesn't have a kilt) you should still come. Remember Burns probably never wore a kilt and this is a Burns night so come and enjoy.
See you all tonight. I'm off to Address the haggis for a DBE lunch in a wee while.

Just to report, we had a rousing night despite the approaching cold, with about a dozen attendees. I'm sure that photos will eventually show up on here (one of us has already tried ).
The evening included a moving Address to the Haggis given by the inestimable Chef, which was enjoyed not only by ourselves, but by all the other diners in the restaurant! In the course of giving it, though, Chef was so carried away while stabbing the haggis, that he shattered the charger it was on into several pieces! The comment was made that this is the result when one uses a Scottish knife on an English plate.
The Immortal Memory was given (despite the speaker having left the text of the speech home ), and the Toast to the Lassies was given by the professioral Cirthalion in Burnsian verse! His consort read a poem by Burns on Women in reply. This was followed by various attendees reading poems from Burns' opus.
We even had Bobbie Burns himself come to our table to express his appreciation!!! And we have his id to prove that it was he.

Hey folks,
Weather permitting, I'll be heading out to Pipers Cove in Kearny on Feb. 16 to order a new kilt. How about making it a shopping day followed by a pub crawl in Hoboken, starting with Scotland Yard?
Piper's Cove supplies most of the tri-state area pipe bands and the waiters at St. Andrew's; they also stock tons of Scottish stuff..food, jerseys, caps, jewelry..some it's a little frightening, but its great fun. And the owners are experts on anything to do with a kilt! There's a super casual resaurant (the Argyll) so we can have lunch there. Anyone up for it?

Is there a Kilt night in NYC? Brian Wilton and I have designed a new tartan for the Family name Downs. I had my Kilt made by one of the greatest Kilt makers I know, Matthew Newsome.
He is a true artist.
I am trying to get the word out to other people with the last name Downs.
