SWK Thriftys- what to expect?

I have four Thrifty's; (and 22 other makes) they are fantastic for Summer (California heatwave 112o!) Quick to put on & take off. I always wear a belt with them - Velcro as sole support-I don't think so!.

Yeah, I will join the others in bashing the velcro. My thrifty doesn't want to stay on long enough to wrap the belt around it because the velcro iw worn out already. Not a problem once the belt is on, but it is annoying. The velcro on my SK puts it to shame.

They are cheap and easy every day kilts. I wear mine frequently, and I am waiting on the second (the christmas present my brother has yet to order). They are good at any temperature. It's not as cool as a sport kilt (few things short of nudity are) but it is still better than most of the alternatives (keep in mind I am a human furnace, so you're experience may be different) and I have been wearing it in temperatures as low as -15 F (and a windchill of -25 F once) with no problem.

Sorry Nighthawk, don't worry about it. Just the names of some mythical wolves...

I will be interested to hear your review of this velcro issue and how you resolve it. Perhaps adding a buckle and strap or new velcro. Perhaps some other method of closure.

Just what I need... a little closure... Actually, I was thinking about the strap and buckle idea. I have one that Jerry gave me for Christmas by mistake. I was thinking about putting it on my AmeriKilt, though. I'll let you know.

And by the way- thank you for the names. I'm sure Odin will be pleased as well. I love nothing more than an opportunity to learn something new. I may have to name my next cat Freki.

Hmm? I havn't really considered a sport kilt but with this recommendation... I just may have to try one.

Freki (Ravenous) and Geri (Greedy) are wolves that are always at the side of Odin, the Norse God of war and death, poetry and wisdom. Odin feeds them meat at his table for he only drinks wine.

I have SWK heavy weight, Standard,Economy,& Thrifty. The Economy and Thrifty I have sewn Pleats down at the hips on both Kilts and they fit much better and look better. As far as the Velcro goes mine is working fine but I do wear a belt with most of my kilts. The thrifty has no lining but I do have long shirts

Ya, and don't forget the psychopomp part, LOL! I wasn't meaning to be snobby or a smart *** about it, Nighthawk. I am glad you looked it up. I went and looked up that norse goop in my notes and files after all this too... guess that's why I have them.

I know nothing of sewing pleats at the fell. I know nothing of sewing a lining into a kilt. I know nothing about putting a strap and buckle on a kilt. I Really don't know much about kilts... I wash my hands of knowing things, LOL!

I use my Thrifty as an around the house kilt. It has also been worn to a couple of gouvernment facilities. As it does not have any metal fasteners it does not set off the detectors on entering. I just remove the sporran and send it through the radar belt as I walk through the detector. Thus far it has saved me a lot of time. I have bought some nylon skirt and pants clips that will be sewn on when the Velcro starts to die. i haven't sewn down the fell yet... but it's time is coming. I found both the Thrifty and the Semi-traditional to be oversized. I know the next ones will be ordered smaller.
