Kilt ?? from Puffer
I need your advce.
I was just given a kilt by a student of mine (firearms) Hr said he found it in a box of clothing . The kilt was made by "Strathmore of Forfar (Scotland) It appears to my untrained eyes to be 11 or 12 oz (new wool) "knife pleated & is in good condition. It is 27' long with a 34" waist, & if I wear it high, as I am now, it fits me. here is a pic
As you can see it fastens on LEFT. I called a friend of mine & he said that it is a "woman's" kilt Is this correct ???
What are my options ??? Can I wear it as is ?? Can I "convert it ??

Looks like a lost cause.
Just send it to me and I'll get rid of it for you!
Just kidding.
I can't even see the pics here at work but I'd assume you can convert it (if it does in fact fasten with the outside opening over the left leg) with the right amount of effort. Just ask around the DIY section for the how to.

I bet you can convert it. If it is a woman's skirt, than she must have been really, really short.

That is a woman's skirt, in the Malcolm tartan, probably made in Strathmore's T7 range, which is 11 oz cloth.
There is more difference between a man's kilt and a woman's skirt than just where it fastens. I wouldn't wear it -- I'd pass it on to an appreciate lady.

You guys realize that female pipers are transvestites.

Transvestites? I bet you say that to every lady you see in a pair of slacks or jeans, too.

I agree, thanks for conformation.
Being "Scot, I am toying with the idea of reclaiming the Cloth & trying some kind of DIY project. But being a "Scot" I am toying with "reclaiming the cloth for some kind of a DIY project. Wish it was not a "Highland tartan".
As to "passing it on, I will passs the word to see if anyone might be interested.

also note the .75" straps... another indication it's a woman's kilted skirt.
How shallow are the pleats?
I think I'd make it a nice gift for a fitting lady, but the choice is yours.

No, because women's slacks and jeans are cut for a woman to wear. A kilt fitted to a woman, still has the apron open like a man's. They are transvestites, Ah'm tellin' yae!
