Where is the castle located?
About eight miles south of the Dumfries, at the point where the estuary of the River Nith meets the Solway Firth so it is surrounded by sea water in two directions. It was built to defend Scotland from attacks from England arriving across the Solway Firth, which is only a few miles wide here.

Great to see some of the pictures of yesterday's adventure!
Have still to sort out my photos as have several other participants!
I believe this was a new record for the number of kilted rabble at Caerlaverock!

I really like that pic of the rabble lined up at the back of the castle. A more stalwart band never stood to I'll warrant. I would have dearly loved to hear the pipes sounding in the castle. Thanks.
