Heres the websites for some downtown pubs take a look and lets see if we can get a consensus on were people would like to go. From what I know of the.
Swifts: large selection of beer on tap and even more in bottels.
Long bar with a large back room with long tables with benches and boths on the side's. Menu is o.k. not extensive but good for a pub crawl. Oh yea the cleanest bathrooms on the L.E.S. in any pub Iv ever drank at.

Puckfair: Owned by the same people same selection of beer the menu is a littel different, but mostley the same. Long bar, small tables in back and small booths. Once more very clean bathrooms.

Telephone bar: Its been a long time since Iv been to this joint. From what I recall. Good selection of beer. Big space with long tables. Dont recall the bathrooms. Must have been to drunk or the did not make an impression on me.
As i recall the food was good, but a lot of tourist.

Bua bar: Never been to this joint so I cant say.

You may wounder about my bathroom obsession. After drinking and hanging out in downtown bars since I was about 14. Iv made a mental note of were you can go without catching some rare disease since NYC is not the city of public bathroom.

So take a look and lets see were we want to have this one.

Great, straightforward Irish bar. Food is simple pub grub: Berkshire pork sliders, ham and Irish Cheddar cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese (Italian, Irish, Vermont and NY cheeses.) Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. Hip but not loud.

Good place to hang out, but not the place to go if you want to make it dinner. Could be a start-off to a pub crawl.

OK...just to summarize thoughts about this from Sat.s' pub crawl:

Saturday the 15th would be better than Sunday, late afternoon: 4 PM.

East Village has the highest number of bars per capita, so that's prime location since for convenience we need the maximum number of bars within a 5 block radius.

"Telephone" would be good for dinner.

Remember to post the route the day before so folks can join us on the route.

Route idea: There are 3 Irish bars in a row on 2nd Ave between 9th and 10th next to Telephone. We could start at Ryan's and work our way around in a circle back to Telephone. (Must hit Bua's, Phoenix, maybe Boiler Room?)

Would anyone like to scout bars with me before the 15th?

Though I have been reluctant to go for the Saturday for personal reasons, I'm open to a meet on that day. The East Village sounds like a good option, especially now that I know how far you guys will go for a good kilt meet!!!

I know and love that area, and the three Irish bars in a row sounds like an easy crawl. I really would like to do dinner, though, though it doesn't have to be fancy.

So time to start the polling! Who is available Saturday and who on Sunday? Where and when would be go to meet? If on Saturday, I'd go for 5 P.M.

P.S. Since the Telephone Bar's icon is the row of English phone booths it has out front, I hardly consider that an apporpriate spot for the occasion!

Sure, Ben! This is an open group, so all are welcome. We're gathering, though, primarily to promote the wearing of kilts. So if your friends wear them, they are REALLY welcome.
