Should I wear a kilt?

Welcome Mattia,

If you're dressing for a wedding you'll need a kilt, sporran, hose, flashes, and most likely jacket and possibly waistcoat, and sure why not a sgian dhub?

I am sorry... I know very little of rules to be applied with the kilt...
I am reading many posts here and they are really full of suggestions...
Unfortunally many times someone say "yes, you should" and someone else say "no, you should not". I really hope to find the right threds. I have a lot to learn before this summer!!!

Should I wear that "nice gadget" called sgian dubh or a in wedding cerimony you should not have "weapons" on you...? ;-)

Most people wearing a kilt to a Scottish wedding will also wear a Sgian Dubh.

If you are concerned about wearing a weapon, you can get a safety Sgian Dubh which has a plastic blade (instead of a metal blade) like this one: http://scottishkilts.net/products/dr...gian_dubh.html

Nothing to be sorry about! You'll find different opinions about some things, but lots of agreement too. The resources mentioned in my earlier post will provide you with a good foundation.

The ebook you downloaded is a very good resource that will probably answer many questions.

The book "The Kilt & How to Wear It -1901" may be difficult to find and has old outdated information.

Yes, there is a lot to learn about properly wearing a kilt. You are asking good questions and members of this forum are always happy to help people who are new to wearing the kilt.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions.

If you are in the wedding party itslef...if you are the best man, for example, the Groom MAY specify that the men in the party all wear the same tartan.

He does not HAVE to do that, but he might. So before buying a kilt, find out if your friend wants to have all the men in the same tartan.

If he does not, then here is a very short list of beautiful tartans that anyone can wear without even a ghost of a chance of bothering anyone with Clan affiliations. Mind you, this is a SHORT list.
