[QUOTE=mattia;490053]I read abou knife and box pleated kilt, now I know the difference, but which one is more elegant, which one I should make to match with prince chalie jacket? [QUOTE]
If the wedding is in Scotland everyone will be wearing a knife pleated kilt. The only variation will be whether it is pleated to the sett (most usual) or the line (mainly military style)

All right. For what I saw I like the effect that a sett knife pleated kilt gives...
The wedding is in june, so I think I have to rush a little to collect everything I need:
kilt, jacket, accessories and all your priceless suggestions...
Should I trust to order kilt and jacket online from a good company? Are those products good or they look cheap? I am 2 meters tall and 125 kg, so I must have my suits sewed by my taylor and I really would like to have a great kilt that fit perfectly, but unfortunally here in Switzerland and Italy no one will do such a hard work (I have no time to spend a weekend in Scotland...).

A kiltmaker will take at least 6 weeks usually so don't leave things too late. If you are buying an outfit here is a measuring guide -

But I would strongly advise you to be properly measured by the kiltmaker and not spend so much money when you may end up disappointed. There are kiltmakers in London as well as Scotland if you can visit there. If not you should really hire an outfit (costs about £50) for the day and when you are in Scotland arrange to have a fitting and make an order then. There are many good kiltmakers in and around Edinburgh and if you want the absolute best then I would recommend Stewart Christie & Co, Queen Street, Edinburgh.

Their address is Stewart Christie & Co., 63 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4NA and telephone number is +44 (0)131 225 6639 - I assume you dial 44 for UK numbers.
This firm I can also recommend as being a little cheaper and do the complete range including shoes.
Nicolson Highland Wear, 189 Canongate, Edinburgh, EH8 8BN
Tel: +44(0)131 556 4763
There is also this firm which one of our members, Hamish, always strongly recommends. I have no opinion one way or the other but they are a reputable firm.
Geoffrey (Tailor) Highland Crafts Ltd, 57/59 High St, Edinburgh, EH1 1SR
Tel: +44(0)131 557 0256
Failing these go to this website - http://www.thephonebook.bt.com/publi...index.publisha
select "Business Type" enter Kilts in the box and Edinburgh in the Location box, click on Search and you will see all the businesses.
I don't have any axe to grind but I am prepared to pay a little more to get the best. Whatever you do please do not go to any of the "tartan tat" shops such as "Heritage of Scotland" or "Pride of Scotland" which are sprouting up all around Princes Street and the Royal Mile. You really would be far better hiring an outfit than wasting your money in such places.

Thanks Phil.. That what I will do. You said what I think... I always prefer pay more for the best than having something that is not good enough for my and "real kilters" taste!!!

Mattia, if I may, what does the wedding party have planned? Do they plan to hire a kilt and accessories for you? If so, then all of your questions will be answered. Aside from that, the information gleaned from here is extremely valuable to you when you decide to purchase your first kilt for your own special occassions or every day wear.
Best advice at this point concerning the wedding is still to talk to the groom and/or whomever else is handling the logistics of this blessed event.

I'd ask the invitor. I've seen weddings where the wedding party wear their own tartans.

the weddings i've been at, the groom & the best man are usualy wearing the same tartan, and the others decide themselves what to wear.
if your not going to wear the kilt very often/hardly ever again, i'd suggest to hire a kilt, the brides family should be able to help you out on where to hire one.
but if it's going to be a common occurance, theres nothing wrong in getting one made for you.

Hey bro, welcome to X marks.
Get your kilt from reputable maker, but I would just rent the coat. Jackets are blooming expensive. You rent one for a one time occasion, and then wear your
kilt whenever you wish, buying more as time goes on because you look like such a stud in one.
Good on ya for crossing into the kilt world. Your being a good friend to you buddy.
