A kiltmaker will take at least 6 weeks usually so don't leave things too late. If you are buying an outfit here is a measuring guide -

But I would strongly advise you to be properly measured by the kiltmaker and not spend so much money when you may end up disappointed. There are kiltmakers in London as well as Scotland if you can visit there. If not you should really hire an outfit (costs about £50) for the day and when you are in Scotland arrange to have a fitting and make an order then. There are many good kiltmakers in and around Edinburgh and if you want the absolute best then I would recommend Stewart Christie & Co, Queen Street, Edinburgh.
