Is this the tartan? As near as I can tell, it is called Champs check. (French pronunciation - "shomps".) I acquired 5 or 6 yards of this stuff several years ago on ebay. If it is the same fabric, say so and I'll post some observations I made regarding it.

I like that fabric. Is it wool, or a synthetic?

The selvedge on this is strange, looks okay in most light but take a flash photo and it glows like neon. It looks like it's the same blue thread from in the pattern but for some reason having it all together like that seems to make it look too powder-blue. I'm probably going to cut it off and just wear it a centimeter lower.
I like the blue edge. It is a nice touch that reminds me of some old kilt/plaids I've seen in pictures.

Hmm, my reply yesterday got lost again. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong...

This one was advertised as 100% Wool as is the upcoming black one, so I'm taking the websites' words for it.

Went back to the original ebay listing for my black tartan I bought and it turns out it's a little different than Champs, so still a mystery. Most of these cheap wool plaids I find on ebay I assume to be generic patterns, but I'd love to post them as a "Tartan I.D. challenge!" and see if they match anything "real."

here's the photo of the black tartan from the ebay listing itself. Don't have it with me handy to describe the repeat spacing.

It'll be nice doing a kilt in a color that will hide my machine stitching so well! ;)

Nice-looking kilt! I'd move your flashes a bit forward.
