Seeking Pattern For Fur Ushanka
I don't know if anyone here can help me, but I thought it worth a try. I was wondering if anybody has a pattern for making a Russian Ushanka (a.k.a Canadian Fur Trooper Hat)?
Or if not, could someone direct me to where I could find a pattern on-line?
Thanks.

I know what you're looking for. Very popular in Alaska and I've got a beaver one myself (my Grandmother made it). You might want to google a few keywords. Or contact an Alaskan furrier and see if they'll share a pattern with you. You might try "David Green furriers", they are in Anchorage.

When I was a Boy Scout, we made fur hats out of self tanned, self trapped fur, and what we did was make a hat out of the brown paper found in grocery bags. we kept on cutting and pasting until we got it right, and then we cut and laced the fur. You should be able to do that too. Brown paper is a lot cheaper than fur.
To really be sure, you could go from brown paper to cheap canvas then to the fur.
Good luck.
