Everyone in Illinois
Just heard about the college shooting there and I wanted to check if our members and their family there are O.K?
Such a sad event.

I live in Chicago and don't know anyone at NIU (it's about 75 miles west) but it's a terrible tragedy.

Yes I'm sure everybody's thoughts are with the victims and their families at a time like this. How many more times must this happen before something is done?

Phil, I can think of a half-dozen possible ways to answer this question, all of which would be unacceptable, based on the forum rules and guidelines. So I'll ask you to not pose any more questions like this again, aye?
This thread was removed from the open forum because of this question, when I don't feel this was the direction Arlen intended for it to take. I'm replacing it here, with a warning that we're not going to discuss any laws or any legal decisions in any country.
Like them or hate them, the rules of this forum govern all of us and they are quite specific about discussions concerning firearms, politics and religion. I don't think anyone wants a return to the system that forced each member to review the rules. If we're not forcing a sign-off on the rules, then we're going to have to re-think our casual use of the infraction system. Everyone here has agreed to accept the forum rules at the time of registration, so let me suggest everyone take a few minutes to re-read those rules. The various responsibilities of each forum member are defined in those rules, so please familiarize yourself with them.

I cannot believe that this response has been made to a message of sympathy and disbelief that yet another massacre of this kind has occurred as if I had some underlying malicious intent in saying what I did. How do you expect any parent or indeed anyone with humanity to respond when hearing of yet another such terrible tragedy involving young people such as this? I really do not understand this reaction and I am now at a complete loss to think that some motive has been attributed to me as a result of my concern. I can only apologise if I have caused anyone hurt or distress and I will ask everyone to understand if I do not express any similar feelings in future.

Phil,
Mike's quote of your post shows that he reacted to your second sentence having to do with "something being done". This opens a can of worms inviting solutions that are political in nature. There are other forums for this kind of discussion.
As an American, I very much appreciate your kind words of sympathy and I don't think anyone was hurt. I would encourage you to continue to offer concern and best wishes. Thank you.
Just my two pence...
Peace,
Dale
