Phil, I too am sorry to learn that you feel you have to draw back from X Marks, even if only a little. Obviously, no forum can be the 'right' place for everyone, including this one (!) but as others have said, we all hope you will not forsake us altogether.

As one who wore his last pair of t------s very nearly nine years ago and has since then worn the kilt daily, I am undoubtedly one of those from the other camp. However, I do not believe I am obsessed with kilt wearing (although it might appear that I am). For me, the kilt is quite simply the most masculine, comfortable and, within my lifestyle, practical garment imaginable - and I see no reason to wear the bifurcated alternative unless I have to which, in almost nine years, has not been the case.

The advent, some ten years ago, of the 'contemporary' kilt and now in all its current forms has made it possible for me to remain kilted when the heavy, traditional woollen kilt is unsuitable. This has also, as I see it, enabled me to play my small part in ensuring that 'The Kilt' does not become just a costume or uniform to be brought out for 'special' occasions which, not so many years ago, was indeed the situation - especially over here in Scotland. My wee 25% of good, honest Scottish blood ensures that I wear every one of my tartan kilts with respect, but I have my 'fun' and unconventional kilts for those other, very much less formal times.

Thank Heavens that we are not all of the same outlook! I greatly respect your opinions, as I do those of everyone else here. If you leave us altogether you will be missed so I trust you will pop back from time to time to add your valued sixpennyworth.

Take care,
Ham.
