What makes belonging to this forum so great

This is what makes belonging to this forum so great, the effort that we all put into either being historically correct, or wearing the modern day kilt properly and looking good for the public. I am honored when a young woman I know says, that's hot in reference to my kilt. What I would never want to hear is a tailor state that those basting stitches should be removed b4 wearing your kilt, now, that would be embarrassing to me.

I wear the kilt to celebrate the Scottish spirit, honor my past ancestors, and it’s a great change from tight jeans.

Judge not, lest ye be judged. it has taken me 50 years to realize that this is the way I should run my life. I gave up argueing when my first marriage broke up. Live and let live. Be happy. Frank

Seriously- the mods here do a great job.

So now, back to the program (so I don't incur their rath by hijacking the thread)- I fully intend to start wearing regular socks again come the hot weather. There is NO WAY I can wear wool socks when it's 95 out. So the kilt snobs just indignantly stick their noses in the air if they like. The way I see it, most ***most*** of my kilts are for casual everyday wear, anyway. I have my nice formal ones, and with them I will wear all the bells and whistles. But with my Amerikilt or my SWK standards, I'll wear what the situation dictates. My black Amerikilt looks great with a T shirt and it looks great with a white dress shirt, Black Stewart tartan tie and vest, as do my SWK's. I will wear my kilts with the accesories that the situation demands. So there you are- my two cent's worth. Carry on.

Oh and one more thing- I have worn, and will continue to wear, my Amerikilt with a Jacobite shirt to the Ren Fest. It gets blisteringly hot here some times, and the two of them together are very comfortable.

Wool pants and shirt riding a horse in the Arizona sun

    Nighthawk,

I don't know I've worn wool pants and shirt riding a horse in the Arizona sun for hours, and the only relief is the occasional wind wafting across the filed and the fact that I might get to quench my thirst with a cold beer after I've taken care of my mount. Wool is not that bad in the summer, it’s just a state of mind, I don’t mind, its HOT, who cares. Oh, and the men were not the only ones that had to endure the desert heat the women sometimes wore period correct underwear! Oh, but it’s a dry HEAT!

Well I can't ask him to "join us" if I'm not a moderator. That's a level of the dark side I have yet to attain

Nice outfit Rogerson, got me the same rig. Cavalry Regimental Supply boots, wool pants, sack coat, big ol' strap, replica spencer etc. Only no dang horse!

And I sure do wish folks would follow the rules at them Ren Faires. Was a dang fool rulebreaker wearing a Utilikilt workman's that activated my kilt addiction! Never thought of kilts, even when at highland games. Then I saw my first UK and it made so much sense I siddled up to him and got the name of the thing off the logo on his tail end.

Went home and googled it up...now I own me 15 Utilikilts...and a whole lot more kilts...have bought 56 so far but sold some off I outgrew and need to sell off some of them UKs I've outgrew. But my life sure would be simpler and I'd have a lot more money and a lot less wool things if that fool woulda stayed home or wore him a tartan kilt so I wouldn't have noticed his "Scottish Jeans."

I normally hate rules and love the edge of the envelope...but that one time...if that guy had just stayed home...or if I had just stayed home...I'd have a lot more closet space...but I'm guessing the kilt market would be a lot flatter now too.
