I think the name "waste land" is a bit misleading. From what I've read, it's of ecological importance and has been officially recognized as such. As for the wealth argument, it is always important to balance conservation and economics, development and environment. I just don't see the development benefiting the local population enough to justify what Mr. Trump is proposing. It seems to be a location unto itself, which will have its own accomodations and what not, so that even if tourism increases preexisting innkeepers shan't benefit. I'd just be hesitant, because not all development is good development. And Trump isn't Midas. Some of what he touches turns to $*&^. So then Aberdeen will be out of their beautiful, protected area capable of drawing tourists and they'll also be in a monetary hole as well.

So true!!! The area we live in was fairly sparse and had a lot of green areas when we moved in 3.5 years ago. Since that time 2 huge townhouse complexes, and 5 highrises have gone up in very close proximity, with a few more planned. None of it provided any economic benefit to the residents of the area (other than crowded roads and the loss of trees, trails, and natural beuaty) and little to none of the locals were employed*. These are residence, I could only imagine the frustration of a proposed golf course which would only benefit a very select few and in the long run likely provide very little for the nearby towns and villages.
*This is a suburb of Vancouver so local is pretty vast. I mean people that leave in our municipality.

As a former Aberdeen resident, I for one hope the planned course is within walking distance of Footdee (Fittie!). It would make sense given the Council's toleration of prostitution in the area, as Mr Trump appears more than willing to pay for a screwing.

Trump could always go to Aberdeen, Md. He could put a golf course on the LZ. There is a lot of unexploded ordinance there.

Ah, the Trump. I actually met him on a school trip to NYC some 17 years ago. One of the places we toured was some building (monstrosity) of his. We were standing in the lobby, when he came out and shook everyone's hand.
My friend turned to me and said "Who the hell was that?"
I shook my head.
"That's Donald Trump!" the tour guide said to us in indignation and horror.
We still didn't know who he was! (We were only 15 or 16 at the time.)
Years later, I wish I still didn't.
Hopefully, the Trumpster leaves Scotland alone and takes his scorched earth policies elsewhere!
Where I live, the beautiful countryside is being gobbled up at a frightening rate and in its place stands Edward Scissorhands-esque neighbourhoods.

Why didn't he just go to dubai? They'll build anything out there.

So today (Tuesday) my wife & daughter were watching Family Feud on the telie (on our one channel) and the question was "Who is the most arrogant person you know"?
I kept yelling that #1 will be Trump, my family didn't think so, & the competitors on tv couldn't come up with the #1 answer.
Wanna' take a wild stab at what it was?
(yep, I was right )
