I'm good for Saturday at 5 p.m. But I agree with Galician: Telephone is an English pub. Let's keep it Irish, boys: some of us have ancestors to think about. My grandmother still hasn't forgiven me for wearing a Canadian tartan at my wedding rather than Saffron!

Yes, that does make sense now that you mention it. Let's skip Telephone.

I'll go with the group decision as far as where to start and end. I have no experience with the Irish bars on the LES.

How would the Starbuck's on Astor Place be for a meeting spot? It's right on the square, across the street from Manhattan's only K-Mart, and right there as one exits the subway at the station with the same name (No. 6 line).

Keith, since you seem to frequent the area, could you suggest how you suburban types would get there from Penn Station? Otherwise, those driving from Jersey might be better off taking the Holland Tunnel, though the Lincoln is also convenient.

Get out of Penn Station at the main entry on 32 and 7. Walk east on 32 to the N and R station on the next ave. Take the N or the R to 8 st. Walk east on 8 st.
But I would say that if this is going to be a Pub Crawl then we should meet at the first pub on the list. We get the list of pubs together that we want to hit, set the times for the pubs then we are off. That way if any one comes late all the have to do is hit the pub that is on the list for the hour set, then we meet up as we go along. Now Andrew has put a list of pub together, (good work) Andrew, I see that people have a problem with telephone, does not really mater to me, what pubs we hit. But once we finalize the list then that will be the crawl that way no one gets lost. I will post a list of pubs web sites in the next day or so take a look and lets get an idea on witch ones people would like to hit.

How about St. Dymphna's Irish Pub and Restaurant is one of the greatest pubs in the East Village. It is on St. Marks between 1st and A.

Oh, I've heard of that place for MANY years, and had always wanted to go. I didn't think that they were even still around.

That is definitely a good place to stop. But I hear that it's very, VERY small.

I have just looked at the menu and love it! Maybe we could head over there first for dinner and then hit the pubs. The only problem is that it is a good walk from the nearest subway stations. (In addition to the No. 6 stopping at Astor Place, the L train would leave one at 1st Avenue and 14th Street.)

Has anybody been there, familiar with it?

The plan for Saturday sounds fine. I don't have a problem with Telephone, I think it's quite good and not overly English, but I understand other's sentiments.

For anyone who needs directions to the area, especially if you are coming by mass transit you can try HopStop. It works very well.

    Name the place!

In keeping with the spirit of honoring our Gaelic brethren, would people enjoy returning to the Irish pub by Penn Station? I would suggest meeting about 4 P.M. that day.

I shall be offline for a good part of February, so speak up, folks, and we'll sort out the consensus upon my return.
I would be honored to be there.
