If we are starting dinner at 5 then that would really be the end of the pub crawl. By 7:30 8:00 the pubs start getting very crowded down town. It would end up being maybe one or two spots. I would say start a bit sooner in the day hit a couple of pubs then stop for dinner. That way we don't spend the day going from one very crowded spot to another looking for room. That is one of the things you have to take account of Thursday to Saturday, the pubs tend to get very crowded and very loud once the party crowd starts coming in. It makes it very hard to hold a conversation with out screaming at each other.

Another pub-crawling strategy that I used to use back in my rugby-playing days is that you send out a scouting-party, even up to half your group, to the next pub, while the rest holds the fort at your first one. If your scouts can't get seats there, they go on to a third one. When they find a spot, they call and wave the rest of the group on.

I don't know how well that will work in NYC, where many restaurants might have the Stout/St. Andrew's policy of not seating you until all your party shows up, but it works well in the regular world...

I think we need to come to a consensus on the time. Having run restaurants in the Village I agree with Keith that they will get very busy on Sat. night. If we have more than 4 - 6 people we will spend more time waiting for tables than actually in the pubs. If we're just standing at the bar we'll hardly be able to hear each other by 8.

I think Keith has the right idea that we do the crawl in the afternoon and then go to the final spot for dinner. As long as we're drinking we can stay as long as we like.

Between 3:00 and 4:00 would be a good starting time. We would be able to get some good solid drinking in before the crowd's. As far as dinner Iv never been to stdymphnas, Iv been past it many times. I think it is kind of small, I may be wrong but I don't think their tables are set up for large groups. As I recall telephone has long tables but it has been a lot of years since Iv been to that spot. Ryans has tables and booths. Swifts has long tables with long benches easily would fit more then one large crowd. Some of the other bars mentioned I don't know how the seating is set up. I might be able to hit some of them this week for lunch if its not to crazy at work and report back.

Gotcha. Sounds like fun, keep me "posted". Looking forward to meeting you all. I have traveled as far as Louisville for a decent kilt night!

We'll be honoured to have you with us. I think starting around three or four sounds pretty good. We can make reservations for a not too late hour and then we can decide what to do based on how people feel at the time for afterward.
