    Thanks guys.
I'm quite fond of it though Diane is not so keen.
I think if I make a nice, fancy big frame she'll like it, though.

The right frame may be the ticket for her to start liking it.
    I think it is grand.

To me, it shows her aunt wanted to give something with
    meaning.

I lived in a basement apartment once. That would have been cool.

Arlen, you should put it over a window. Think she'll notice?

It's beautiful! I really like the way it's 'part' of a window, rather than a whole window vista. A very interesting treatment. What a lovely thought from your Aunt.

You know Arlen, my wife has a couple of paintings that her grandfather did that hang on our wall.
I have to be honest & say that if it was up to me originally (and being an artist myself I'm a bit picky) I would never have hung those paintings up initially.

Having said that however, they have grown on me over time. And now that her grandfather is gone, I can more fully appreciate what they mean to her.

My suggestion: find a frame, or some wood to make one, that "matches" the window frame in the painting. This will bring together the whole illusion of looking thru a window, and give it more of a 3D quality, furthering the illusion.
If necessary, place it where its not so prominently displayed in your new home, where only the two of you see it most often. Give Diane time to get use to it, just as it took me time to get used to my wife's. She just might surprise you
