Warm in my tweed on a cold morning

So this morning it was in the low 20's (F) when I left for work and it never did get much warmer thoughout the day. We had some snow flurries off and on, and the wind was whipping. This is a marked change from the unseasonably warm weather we have been enjoying lately.
So to bundle up against the cold, I turned to my tweeds!

I put on the warmest kilt I own, a four yard box pleated kilt that I made from a very thick, super heavy Harris tweed woven by Marion Campbell (1906-1996), subject of the biogarphy, A Harris Life. My jacket and vest are Harris tweed, as well, though a lighter weight, and woven by Catherine Campbell, who happens to be Marion's great-neice, carrying on the family tradition.

I put on my warmest hose, the shepherd's check socks my wife knit for me. Being two-colored, they are double thick and quite cozy! And I topped it off with my warmest cap, one of the hand knit broad bonnets we sell at the museum gift shop.

I didn't realize this till later in the afternoon, but as Harris tweed is all woven by hand, just about my whole outfit was hand made, in some fashion or other, save my shirt and shoes. (My sporran is a beaver Glengyle, from the Ferguson Britt line, which are all hand made).

Wearing an outfit that so many people have put such time and talent into, using their own two hands, really gives one a sense of pride! (And, I was toasty warm all day long, to boot!)

Nice outfit and picture Matt, today I was wearing my 22oz WPG Gordon Highlanders Kilt and an Arran Sweater, of course at times I did wear my jacket but at some times I went without it, it was -20 in my area.

Matt great outfit, you just need a brown tie and a proper walking stick to finish off the look of a country gentleman taking a leisurely stroll about the estate.
 Cheers

Smashing outfit Matt. One of these days I've got to get a really heavyweight kilt to cope with the long frigid upstate New York winters. Oh, and I'm now officially jonesing for my Ferguson Britt inversnaid!
