I really like this response! I will have to remember it.
It has actually happened to me several times over the last couple of months. I have gone out to a local bar that is apparently a meeting place for cougars (so I am told). These women have no shame.
Of course, I have to admit that I occassionally enjoy the attention...

The only time this happened to me I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to have someone catch the moment on film. I was at a Red Sox game with a rather large outing and one of the other group members was kind of drunk and he just reached out, grabbed the hem of my kilt, and lifted. Too bad he was a dude, not that there's anything wrong with that. The guy two seats down happened to be taking a picture of me anyway, and inadverdantly got the money shot:

"Your lucky this beer is expensive or it would be in your face followed fastly by a couple of blunt objects" woulda been my reply.
Thank God for the meds though.

My 4 year old nephew thought it would be funny to flip the back of my kilt up while at a party one time. I told him it was the same thing as me pulling his pants down in front of everyone and that I would do just that if he tries it again. He understood the correlation and hasn't tried it since. Children are easy to forgive because they do it out of ignorance. It's the people who should know better that it's hard to excuse.
There are 10 kinds of people in the world...
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.

Now there's an idea... If I get my kilt lifted again, I could turn, pull their pants down and loudly yell "HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?" so that people will turn and stare and they'll be caught with their pants down!
But seriously, I wouldn't do that... If I did I'd be no better than the kilt lifter.

I went farther ones. We were on the heavy party and one lady tried to lift my kilt, so I stopped her, but my wife said - "I told U it's gonna happen! " so I was - "Next time I'll tall her to kiss it"
and my lovely wife - "Why don't U just wright it down on your a-s-s"
I told her - "Watch me baby"
Guess what happened next....![Embarassed](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)

I think part of the problem is all of the drunken behavior from past kilted people, and all of the smart remarks that people seem to take to time to come up with. All of this has become part of the society norm to the point where people think it's not only exceptible but expected to grab at your kilt/ask whats under it. I think if people really wanted to put a stop to this behavior they would just tell offenders to grow up, and also curb any behavior they engage in that might encourage this to happen in the first place. The no undergarment thing is an old regimental custom. However they were required to wear something in public, dancing and at balls (in the presence of woman). There is a mystic about this topic, and so long as people insist on making it a big joke that there will be those who will try to find the answer, one way or another. Here is a good link to a peice written by the late Harry Lindley, a legendary figure in the world of tartan. Remember that if you encourage the question through innuendo, expect to have your kilt pulled at... and if not you then maybe the next kilted person they come into contact with.

I have had my kilt lifted a number of times, all by strangers, and I did nothing to invite what I consider a personal assault. All but one were women who thought it funny. A guy lifted it up over my head from behind in front of a table full of strangers, and because I didn't want to get his blood on my new kilt, I simply asked them if they enjoyed the show and walked away. I refuse to accept that lifting my kilt is to be tolerated or that simply by wearing it I'm inviting that kind of rude behavior.
