Trews from 10-11 ounce wool
Hello Rabble,
I've acquired enough of a tartan to make myself and my father matching summer weight wool kilts. My uncle is interested in a pair of trews, as his life and travels leave little time for a kilt. My net searches show trews in every weight, and PV versions as well.
Does anyone have a pair in lightweight textile? If so, how do they hang? Should I steer towards a heavier weight in the matching tartan?
Cheers,
Kevin.

Just like the kilt, trews will hang better with heavier cloth.I can see the merit of 12oz cloth in warmer climes though.Oh and wool every time.

I don't think Minnesota qualifies as 'warmer' climes!

How about DC and points south?
My uncle lives astride the North/South divide.
Cheers,
Kevin.

OK! I suspect it is rather chilly in parts of North America at the moment,so trews made from 16oz wool sounds good to me.I understand that the summers that you have are very much warmer than our cool, even in the summer, climate. So whilst the trews may not hang as well with 12oz cloth, they may be a tad cooler.

Probably a bit warmer, I would guess. Though with today's changing climate, you never know!

Thanks,
My spider senses are steering me towards heavier textile.

i have thre sets of trews....two in 12 oz and one in 16oz (band weight).
the 16oz is, unfontunately, pretty darn uncomfortable for anything other than standing and waxing poetic about trews vs kilts. It's just too darn stif for sitting. the drape, hoever, is excellent.
the 12 oz versions are plenty warm in the winter, i live in the NW, so it really never gets too cold here....maybe those insane people in Minnesota wold find 12 oz a bit light.....but for out here....it's just dandy.
on a side note.....make sure you get/make them with the "Military cut" option, with the back waistban just a tad higher and notch-cut. makes for a much better fit when moving your arms or ending.

DC was built on a swamp. It's hot and muggy in the summer, pleasant in the summer and fall, and ocassional snow, sometimes heavy, in the winter.

Pattern?
Where did you find a pattern or patterns for trews? I have been looking, to no avail.
