I have a friend who has been very successful on ebay as both a buyer and a seller and that is exactly the advice that he gave me...and it has proven to be the best advice ever.

I had decided to get a Spyderco Sharpmaker & eBay always has several. So I watched for a month, placed my max bid several times and watched the bids roll in & over mine. I had an email from eBay warning that I was about to miss another item so I clicked in just t o see where the bid was, $48 and climbing. About half way down the page was a new buy it now sharpmaker for $36! So I lost and I won.

    Just keep watching

Coming from such a small nation, we New Zealander's have to excel at something. And we find it hard to be modest, as well.

I have been selling stuff on Ebay for two years. I have paid for my last kilt and a jacket and vest from selling. Keep buying. Bid High and bid often. Frank

I least I know the pin went to a fellow x-marker and it will be well used rather than go to a re-seller.

A few months ago I was watching a sgian dubh being sold as part of an estate sale. It eventually went beyond what I was willing to pay. I saw it again a few weeks later posted by an e-bay knife shop. Both the knife and the description were a little embellished, but it was the same. I checked and the buyer did become the seller.

A lady friend of mine always says, "Rejection is God's protection." It wasn't supposed to be.

At the post office this morning a guy was waiting to see the postmaster. he had a battered package in his hand...very battered...because the cardboard it was shipped in was very thin. He was grumbling, "I paid $100 for this on ebay!"

Seems like every time I decide maybe to 'try' ebay I run into something like that to remind me to just forget it.

Ron - on the flip side, in the past year I have managed to find a 19th century Edinburgh hallmarked silver kilt pin, an autographed copy of District Tartans, along with a Prince Charles Edward Stewart kilt, several sets of socks from Hamilton Dry Good and some tartan cloth, all at very reasonable cost and with no damage etc in shipping. I think your guy in the PO was the exception, not the rule.
