Update
I GOT A MEDICAL WAIVER. This time Friday I will be sworn in. Wahoo! It has been an agonizing process and I am glad that I will be done with the process soon. Heres to another boring wait in KC, but if any KC kilties want to get together Thursday evening I would welcome the company. Drop me a PM or post in the thread that I started in the Kilt Night forum.

Outstanding! Welcome to the brotherhood of short hair and short pay. The Army has been pretty good to me the past 17.5 years. I've been lucky enough to work with some Navy types that have been consumate professionals. Enjoy your time but ships ain't fer me!

If you have to go back to KC, then check out the Country Club Plaza and that area for things to do. Sundays are bad nights in any city, but the restaurants and bars there are usually open on Sunday nights.
Downtown KC is dead on weekends and, well, most weekdays. It just isn't the place to stay when visiting. You have to head outside the downtown loop and go to the Arts District where there are lots of restaurants, galleries and bars. It is just south of the Loop.
If you go to just east of the Arts district, there is an iron sculpture studio that has a restaurant that was featured on Good Eats on Food TV. It has great pizza and bar food. Kind of an odd combination for a working art studio, but it fits there.
If nothing else, take a tour of barbeque restaurants - there are around 50 or 60 around the metro, each with its own dry rub and sauce.
KC also has a lot of museums open on Sunday afternoons, but not evenings. It has the ninth best art museum in the nation.
There are movie theaters in Crown Center and the Country Club Plaza. I think they were rehabbing an old movie palace in the KC Lights District downtown, but since I've been gone, I don't know the status of that project.
If nothing else, drive around and look at architecture. The housing to the west of downtown has a mix of 1880's Victorians and uber-contemporary architecture. Go down to Ward Parkway and cruise around looking at the mansions. Hyde Park has earlier examples of mansions and displays an excellent use of stone on houses that you don't see outside of Kansas City very often. There are other areas, such as the Northeast that has mansions, but it is too difficult to direct someone in and out the neighborhood.
If you are there on a weekday or on a Saturday, check out Sheehan's Irish Imports. They rent kilts and have a few (very few) accessories for sale. But it is fun to wear your kilt there and talk with the owner and her family.
Better luck next time. Good luck with your military career.

Congratulations! If I had to pick a branch of the armed forces to join, it'd be the navy. Of course, my dad was an engineer on a nuke sub during the cold war, so I'm biased.
In any case, good luck!

I would drive about and explore if I had wheels. Best I will have is my legs. I am shipped to KC via military transport. Oh well, guess I will just have to twiddle my thumbs as I have no takers for a KC kilt get togethe on such short notice. . .

choose your choose your fate
So what rate did the Recruiters promise you?
I myself went in as a Nuke Electrician; two years of training and school and four years on fast boats.
I then cross rated to Intelligence where I have been now for ten years and hoping to pick up Senior Chief this month.
Welcome to the best branch of the Military [ there may be some on this forum that would contest that statement]

For those who heed the call to arms, I have the utmost respect. Congratulations, BB! Keep us posted on which area of the Navy you go into.
