Options for matching hose and flashes.
Ok folks here's an easy one for you all but a tough one for me. I just received my new SWK Black Stewart, had it altered to a 22" length and want to wear it during Spring Break. The only hose I currently have that would go with the kilt are an off white and an Arran ( also off white). Jerry included the flashes, but I usually use the STM garter ties. I do not like black hose, SO what are my options for hose and garter ties????? Pix to follow because I not only got the kilt back from the tailor, but the Buzz Kidder sporran and the sporran belt from Robert at RKILTS also came in at the same time. HELP!

Deep red hose and black garter ties or deep green hose with black garter ties (but I like the first option best!). Congrats on your new kilt and goodies!!

Black Stewart is very versatal!
What I do, is to worry more about matching shirt and hose. If I have matching flashes, I tend to use them. If not, or for a change, I pick a minor color from the kilt. In the case of the Black Stewart, I would probably go with red flashes, of what-ever version you like. Light colored shirt and hose will look fine.
Black shirt, hose, red flashes, also can look striking.
I've not worn greens with the Black Stewart, but why not?

I've always worn my Black Stewart with black hose and either matching tartan or solid red flashes.
But, if you don't like black, that's out.
The other colors in the tartan, if worn as solid hose, would look mighty unusual and the only neutral colors that might work would be a grey or charcoal, but guessing they'd be too close to black for your tastes.
A puzzler for sure.

ancient red flashes
I wore this Men’s Crossroad Cricket shirt form Exofficio with ancient red flashes and I thought the shirt and flashes went really well with the kilt.

Or you could just wear the red soccer socks like I did.

I have the greens covered in both hose and flashes. Would dark blue work?

I've worn Navy blue with the Black Stewart tartan, really any colour in the tartan will work. I've also used the matching shirt and hose like this

The hose would have to be a very DARK blue
The hose would have to be a very DARK blue, like the LAPD blue it almost looks black or midnight blue, as long as its not light blue. The rule of thumb I use is that if I lay the kilt out, pair it with a shirt, and hose if there is something that just doesn’t look right then I'll swap out the shirt first because I only have two pairs of hose. I may be wrong, but I think if your shirt, hose and kilt have similar colors then you should be OK. Some people are braver than others are when it comes to color combinations, but then again we are all a brave lot for being kilted.

Coming home tonight from class I got stuck in traffic at a light and sat there looking down at my Black Stewart. The sun was shining thru the window and I started to pull colors from the kilt thinking which one(s) would work well to match. I sensed motion in front of me and looked up and to my left and there was a van full of Aspen worker bees next to me staring, pointing and chuckling. Of course I was sitting at the light staring at my crotch flipping the front apron trying to let the light hit it a different way.
Red seems to be the predominant color to try and the rest have hit on several other options I can work with, considering my current collection. Thanx all!
