Impromtu KC kilt night
The Navy is shipping me back to the Mariott in downtown KC tomorrow. Thats Thursday March 13. I will arrive at the hotel at around 2 or 3 and have an entire evening to kill. I know we have several KC members so if any are interested in getting together PM me or post here and we can try to put something together.

I don't live there any more, but there are a lot of things to do for free in KC. Go check out Union Station and Crown Center.
Go south of the downtown loop and walk around the art galleries and check out the restaurants. Go North of the Loop to the River Market area. Lots of restaurants, stores and even a museum there.
Go to the Plaza and walk around there. Walk east and see the Nelson's sculpture garden.
East of the Plaza along Brush Creek is the Kaufman's garden that is interesting year round.
If you have a car, go south of the Plaza on Ward Parkway and check out the mansions. Check out the mansions in Hyde Park (31st ST and Gilham Parkway).
Go to Grinder's at 417 E. 18th St. (Tel: (816) 472-5454), near downtown. It was featured on Food TV's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives for its gourmet pizzas, authentic Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and neighborhood restaurant feel. It is part of the metal sculpture studio of a KC artist, if I recall correctly. Probably lots of good conversation opportunities. You could wear your kilt there to get a conversation started.
This one is expensive, but you can go to Lidia's - Kansas City restaurant. She is the lady on PBS with the Italian cooking show. It is the best Italian I've ever had and I like that it is a meat and vegetable kind of place, rather than the stereotypical Italian fare (you can get pasta, too; it just doesn't dominate the menu).
If you are of legal age to drink, check out The Cashew at 2000 Grand Ave. It was the place where most hip young people went back when I lived there. They serve a little food, so you may not have to be of drinking age to get in. Go to the 2nd Floor and watch the world drive by through the huge windows.
Go to Westport and walk around. Check out Sheehan's Irish Imports further west on Westport Road if you want somewhere to wear your kilt.
Kansas City is pretty kilt friendly. Some girls will probably honk at you to let you know they like the kilt if you wear it on a busy street.
I just read your reply to my suggestions in your other post. For goodness sakes, man, take a bus! You can walk to the arts district and do most of the places I suggested. You can take a bus if you don't want to walk to Crown Center/Union Station. Ask the hotel concierge for a map with the attractions marked and for info on the bus routes.
The Plaza is a straight shot down Main Street on a bus. You can take nearly any bus going south to get to the Arts District (between 17th (N) and railroad tracks on the South, Grand (E) to Baltimore (W)). Hit the Cashew and walk around looking at the art (even if you don't appreciate it, it is a time killer).
Just have fun!

Actually... check out the new Power&Light District downtown by the Sprint Center...
It's the coming out weekend, though the Big-12 tournament is happening now and that means thousands of people.
They have a new real (in a way) irish pub called Raglan Road, all my Irish friends say it's great.
Of course, the previous poster mentioned some great places too. Grinders is one of my favorites!

While I wish I could have gotten some of the rabble together , I understand that it was very short notice. Thank you for all who posted advice. While I didnt have time to do everything listed, I did head to Grinders and I was not disappointed. I wanted to sample their beer, but decided not to as I was there for the military, not on my own. Yeah, I know you can drink in the military, but I had processing and an early start the next morning. Anyway, I had a good evening on walkabout, but I didnt go kilted. Like a numpty, I forgot some accessories. I felt it was better to go out in pants than looking half dressed in ma kilt.
