Scotch eggs...mmmm. only places I ever saw them were taverns. Draft beer and scotch eggs...lived off of that diet throughout my university days...

Miilington's butcher on Barnet Highway has some great Scotch eggs. You'll have to pop over when Raphael gets out this way.

As far as I can tell from reading up on it, the Scotch pies are supposed to be made with mutton... I have seen lots of things called shepard pies that tend to have beef it seems. I guess they're all in the same family or idea.
I've never heard of Scotch eggs. Sounds interesting though...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

The way to tell a good Scotch pie is how far the grease runs down you arm, the further down the better the pie.

So basically if the paper bag it came in now looks like saran wrap than the pie is good to go?

In Australia, a "shephard's pie" is typically a circular pie crust, with a filling made from beef mince, peas, and carrots. The 'lid' is made from whipped / mashed potatoes which is spread across the top of the filling before being baked in the oven. My mother would run a fork across the top of the potato to give the top a little texture, which would make the potato a little crunchy (the butter in the whipped potato didn't hurt that effect either).
Occasionally, mum would add a little grated cheese on top.
Served hot, with lashings of ketchup (or tomato sauce as we Aussies refer to it) - YUM!
cheers

Sounds good. I'd bet that every culture has a meat pie or at least a non-sugar pie of some sort.
