I'm a little rusty with the whole visa alphabet, since I don't make everyday use of it, but shouldn't you apply for a K-2 (spouse of US citizen) visa instead of entry under the Visa Waiver Program?

Arlen,
Take the one way trip. You paid for it. What is the worst that could happen? They send you back?

visa
We had a friend from Wales that came over on a one-way ticket. He got into the country and was told to have a return ticket (or proof thereof) within 15 days for a return date. He in turn went to the British Consulate and was able to extend his stay. He was here for 5 months before he returned. He was told next time to go to Canada instead first then cross into the US. Also, while he was here, he could have stayed longer if he applied for a Student Visa. The rules have changed dramatically since 9/11, so I have no idea what the rules are now. Anyway, good luck!!

You can be banned from entering the USA. Forever. That sounds like "the worst that could happen" to me.
Like I suggested earlier, see if you can convert your ticket into a round-trip. It will probably cost an extra GBP 300-400 (I just checked the Orbitz site). Good luck.

Arlen, sorry to heat that. Believe it or not, I had the same problem when we came back from Germany. They were having issues with the one way ticket even with the US passport and the military ID. Immigration folks don't have to make much sense evidently. Sorry things worked out like this but June isn't too much longer. Keep a good attitude and the time will pass quickly.
