I think not but even worse would be to state that Mel Gibson is the Shakespeare of our day!

I hope you know I was speaking of their (sometimes) creative view of history and not their writing skill. For example, Shakespeare has the Dauphin crowned king of France before Joan la Pucelle shows up; in real life, of course, it was Joan who lead his armies to victory and THEN he was crowned kind of France.

Oh creative views of history are not necessarily that new but I don't think the Bard took as many liberties as Mr Gibson and other Hollywood personnel.

It's not necessarily the glaring factual ones, for those who know, even small details can raise an eyebrow. In Elizabeth the Golden Age poor Mary Queen of Scots gets one stroke of the axe to lose her head whereas history tells us it took two. Niggling I know, and she would no doubt have preferred the one anyway but somehow it detracts from the drama of the scene.
