Somewhere, years ago, there was a thread about this that talked about keeping about five special areas of the body warm to keep the entire body warm...was like, the back of the hands, the back of the neck...seemed sound advice.
Me, I do layers and go to leather kilts or 16 ounce wool kilts.

It was about 8 degrees F when this pic was taken, had a jacket, vest, sweater, and t-shirt on and an overcoat for back up. The Utilikilt's brown leather was toasty warm.

Was warmer for this shot, maybe 30 degrees F with no wind and sun out. Just a t-shirt and wool jacket with cotton Basil Utilikilt's Survival II.
Which reminds me...if you're gonna go regimental on the snow be sure to take into account the possibility of reflected sun rays and possible painful sunburn.
