LOL - You guys sound like the ladies in my knitting and stitching groups hiding THEIR stash from THEIR husbands/boyfriends.
It's a lot easier to hide a few balls of sock yarn than a kilt, though.
Seriously, though. Fess up, and start a kilt fund for the next one. Planned expenditures are always better for the budget.

Kilt fund, eh? That's a great idea. We already have a Christmas club account and starting a kilt fund would be easy right now.
