Let's see, you are from the NY/PA border. Hmm, I call that the poconos, or buffalo. The only other thing I know of is the endless mountain triathalon... in Lackawanna State Park. Pretty much just deer country.

I've lived in Middletown, NY (Orange County), Little Falls and Ilion, NY (Herkimer County) and am now back in Mamaroneck, NY (Westchester Couinty) where I was raised...
As far as where "upstate" begins...I think its anything north of White Plains or North of where the person talking lives...
though most people north and west of Kingston will generally agree that they are in "upstate" NY

All wrong!
Anything north of the Adirondack Park is Upstate. Downstate is Albany...isn't the equator just a littel south of Albany?

Personally, I consider the Catskills and anyplace north of them to be upstate NY. South of the Catskills is all downstate to me.

Greetings from East Greenbush. It's good to see someone else from the Albany area on the forums.

I'm from Rome, but haven't been back since my Mother's funeral.
I have a good friend in the area (Gil Mason) who is an excellent piper, but I can't remember any of the festivals.
I only remember Stirling Forest from my time stationed at West Point.
