I mostly did this because I thought it would be easier, and a bit stronger. I think it's turning ok, but the material at the hem is pretty darn thick and even with the inner pleats sewn down, I'm not sure how well it will keep the pleats. It does add great weight though. It feels like a substantial garment.

In general it's been a bit slow going (I had to tear out and redo more lines than I would like) but I think it's working.

I decided to sew the fell on the inside of the kilt and cut out the excess material. I'm still not sure if this is the best idea, but it did make it easier for me to taper it exactly right. I left enough material that I can always pull off the waistband and take out/in a few of the pleats if need be.

I still have to add the belt loops and figure out how to close it. I'm thinking buttons, but I have to figure out how to make button holes with my machine.
