ticketed (journeyman) machinist, about to be ticketed locksmith, welder of odd things, writer (for money, see Boswell's 'Johnson' on writing for free), bearer of a BA awarded at 49 years old - go for that liberal arts degree at any age - all of these concurrent with maintaining a building that houses 'the hardest to house of the hard to house' in Vancouver, BC. Occasional university lecturer. I'd go nuts working one, 40 hour a week job, so I work several.

At present I work for Interstate Batteries.
In the past I worked as a mental health & substance abuse counselor (until I left because things were wrong with the company's ethics). I have also worked at a community college in Oregon as a collegiate ministry director. I have worked at a couple of bookstores in the past also.
In an odd sorta way I guess I am a rogue scholar - reading and learning never stops.

Kind of an update: I've been working in the sign industry for the last few years, but recently started doing stand-up comedy! I've been religiously working on my act, which is why I haven't been hanging around here much lately.
I don't think I'll be doing a HBO special anytime soon, or quiting my 'day job', but I'm having fun.

Just found this forum (I'm still knocking around in the "X"). I'm an elem. school principal....I taught grades 1 and 5 for 13 years, and have been principal in a 450 student school for 21 years (my students are used to seeing me in a kilt!). BUT, I retire on June 30.....then I will travel with my wife, continue to spend much of my time reenacting 18th century Highlander, and I might do some side work for Army Heritage Education Center in Carlisle, PA. Also, might do some school programs: storytelling, history programs, etc. Malcolm

Curse the failing economy!!! I just got laid off. I've been working as a custom boatbuilder for the past 3 1/2 years and orders at my shop have finally dried up to the point that they could no longer support their workforce. Five out of six boatbuilders were let go. The last one left is only going to be around long enough to finish the remaining order and then he's gone. I'm really depressed. I live in Albany, NY so there isn't much prospect for finding another boatbuilding job. I suppose I'll have to start searching for a new career. It was fun while it lasted, however.
