    Dale,

Your words are extremely generous. Thank you.

However, I was thinking about your 'sartorial ensemble' as you describe it, and visualising you as part of the choir whilst so dressed ........ and I believe that black hose would, in fact, look better from the body of the auditorium than your charcoal hose. I just feel it would be more in keeping with all the "pengiun suits" around you.

There certainly are times and occasions when too much 'black' is quite simply too much. On this occasion, however, I would have opted for the too much black look! Try it next time.

Oh, and very well done, by the way.

    Take care,
    Ham.

Well done indeed sir. The more I see here the more kilts Portland needs to see. Next project is finding the Eugene Symphony schedule. I am thinking a wee drop, or coffee and dessert or somesuch after an evening of music might be worth the drive down. Something to think about anyway.

Hmmmn! I would not recommend a black cantle (if such exists!). Your almost all-black outfit needs the relief that a regular dress cantle will provide. From the auditorium it could appear that you are not wearing a sporran at all, if you dispense with that touch of silver!

Maybe there is something you could apply to it (on a temporary basis, of course) that would prevent a 'high gloss' reflection - something to just dull it down a little to give it more of a matt surface. I do not know what product to suggest, but there must be something available out there that could be sprayed on, and wiped off again as required.

    Just a thought!

    Take care,
    Ham.

You go, Dale! Sorry I missed it! Janet gave me your "hello" this morning.

I wear a black kilt as part of my concert attire (all black) as well, my only challenge is I try to minimize the space between my kilt and hose as those white PNW knees can be a distraction. But I also usually stand in the back...for our big concert this spring I have several percussion parts to come forward for. Hmmm...might be time for a nicer black kilt...

Dale, congratulations. You attire sounds quite nice for the occasion - very formal yet conservative. I agree with Hamish that in this instance black hose would be fine. Concerning the glare from the cantle, there are some dress sporrans that have an antique silver finish on the cantle. Scottishkilts.net has several. There are probably other sources as well.

Try hair spray. That's what we use on stage when a prop mirror becomes too reflective. It is easily removed with a rag and warm water.

See the schedule here - http://eugenesymphony.org/

There are several establishments within walking distance that serve all three, one that has quite the selection of malts. I'd be honored to share a dram with you.

Thanks for the advice Hamish. I didn't have black hose, so I made do with charcoal. I agree, black would have completed the ensemble. I hadn't thought about the sporran "disappearing" with a black cantle, but that makes sense. I may test the hair spray idea Ruanaidh suggested and see if it dulls it a bit. Seems I need to be on the lookout for a "antiqued" cantle sporran.

    Thanks for the advice,

    Dale
