    Ray Bradbury

    When and where is he speaking?

    I have a friend in Lancaster who is a Science Fiction fan, maybe he could go tape it for you.

    OTOH, if you don't have a test tonight, go see Ray Bradbury and have someone take notes in class.

    If it is anything at all like my math class, I'd use any excuse to get out of it! And seeing Ray Bradbury … wow!

    Ray Bradbury > Math class.

    I'd say get the notes for math from one of your buddies and head to the Bradbury talk. That talk could truely be a once in a lifetime chance, and you can always catch up on math tomorrow. What would you do if you were sick, you'd get the notes from a friend. While continually cutting class is not good, an occasional pass will not be too detrimental in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

    To miss Ray Bradbury because of a math class is an excuse.
    To miss math class becuse of Ray Bradbury is a reason.

    excuse = just because I didn't want to
    reason = valid

    I wouldn't normally suggest skipping class. But for Ray Bradbury? Definitely.

    Even if you don't personally enjoy his work or share his viewpoints, he's one of the most influential minds of our time. In my opinion, formal schooling is meant to teach us discipline while it educates us and skipping class misses both of those points. But formal schooling is also about listening to what people like Ray Bradbury have to say in order to expand our own horizons and world views.

    Unless you have an exam, you can double-fill your brain with math tomorrow. But chances to expand your horizons and to appreciate other viewpoints don't come around every day.

    (and this is coming from a guy who doesn't consider himself a fan of Mr. Bradbury's literary works)

    I vote for skipping class. This is as you said yourself, a once in a lifetime opportunity. You will always kick yourself if you don't, and life is too short to be wishing you would've.
