What an uninformed article.

The description of Powell's arms are in heraldic English, not "pretentious Scottish," whatever that may be.

The author confuses the US Bill of Right's Second Amendment on the right to bear arms with a right to bear or own a coat of arms. One could go on and on.

I am surprised that Newsweek would publish an article of this calibre. It's no wonder that the print media in the US is going downhill fast.

I think blazon terms are in medieval French, but that's neither here nor there. I thought it was interesting to post here because they lumped in wearing a kilt with your pretentious neighbor having arms.

I met him in a receiving line in which I thought he was somewhat curt and unfriendly. I hope the new L.L., David Sellar, is more gracious to us commoners, if he ever chooses to travel to the U.S.

Curt and unfriendly? More probably shy and reticent, and probably just a bit overwhelmed by the reception he received (to say nothing of jet lag). Lord Lyon Blair was a tad more formal than some Americans have come to expect, but he was always polite, even to fools.

Lord Lyon Sellers is a first class gentleman with a greater knowledge and understanding of his office than the previous incumbent had when he assumed his duties. Undoubtedly Americans will probably warm more to Sellers as he is a more outgoing personality. In my opinion Lord Lyon Sellers will bring to the office both intellect and wit, as well as a deep understanding of all matters heraldic which fall within his purview.
