Wow!
Never heard of this stuff. Always thought NG & SG were the same with different names. They sure keep a low profile!
Warlock~ Good for you for finding a way to serve!

I applaud you. You got a little taste of what we of the Corps knew--and loved and hated. Actually, we all love it now and hated it then!
Your dedication is an true inspiration, and like Frank McGrath, I'd sign up , too. But I am so old and broken down they wouldn't have me on a bet. (55 years, heart transplant, etc. Not a viable candidate. It's easy to volunteer when you know they won't take you.)
Keep us posted on your progress. I really enjoyed hearing you war stories.

Freedom is not free, but the US Marine Corps will pay most of your share.

Thank you for volunteering your service. PT = Physical Training on the official books. After a relatively easy Basic Training in the U.S. Air Force, I was assigned to combat ready training with the U.S. Marines. There P.T. = Personal Torture. I am proud to have survived it, and would do it over again, if I was that age again. The physical end of the training is an essential ingrediant to the mental preparedness needed in high pressure situations, whether they be combat or natural disaster.

Gout
As I am sure your know, the key to controlling gout is finding the source of the trigger. It isn't always on the lists of food and drink that are "off limits". For me it was always clams. I love em and so does the Gout!!!
I had it under control by avoiding them but eventually the attacks came back and they were frequent and fierce. I cut out shellfish entirely but couldn't figure it out what was triggering the continued attacks. I started a journal listing every meal and my daily PB&J stood out!
Although it wasn't on "the lists" - peanuts (a legume) seemed to be triggering the attacks. My doctor said that doesn't make sense but since cutting peanuts out of my diet, I have not had an attack (knock o wood). Have also stopped the daily prescription with no adverse affects.
Find the source and eliminate it!

When I turned 40, I thought great! Now I can do PT (physical training) on my own, because I heard that there was an Army program called over 40 PT. Unfortunately all that means is we have to be careful, and the real funny thing is that I can still outrun the majority of the young kids in the company, but my back and knees occasionally hurt. September 2009 cannot come fast enough; I am so ready to retire.

Now you know why I finally gave it up after 25 years! But I sure loved being a Drill Sergeant! Reminds me of pushing troops at Ft. Benning!

It isn't funny, they don't make them like they used too.

Thanks Bradley. I "assumed" we were talking ARNG here.
