I always so no, but I do play tuba. I really do play tuba. Anyway, usually leaves them with a rather confused look.

I've played my pipes at work a couple of times, but before that ever happened, a few years ago I had a small-talk conversation with a colleague who works in our Dallas office and told him I played the pipes. He said, "Really? Next thing you'll be buying a kilt!" I said, "Buddy, that came first!" And, he laughed.

Yeah my name is Sean Blanck or "Seen Blank" by most morons. Original name was Blanch "ch" is pronounced just like Loch or Lochness. Just plain goofy. I love when I run into a Scottish or Irish person no sweat on pronunciation of first and last names.

I've also heard it called 'kilt escoces'. When I've used that in the neighborhood here, people seem to understand.

Interestingly enough, in a very mixed neighborhood on Chicago's North Side, I've only had positive comments including from the Hispanic and African American gangbangers.

Let's keep this conversation sophisticated, now. I take it the white gangbangers don't notice the kilt?

...bare in mind, Scots were some of the original "gangbangers".

For the "punk kids" that make comments. I say something to the effect, " It's a kilt and I wear it for the sole reason of ease of access for my girl friend or wife, boys"

You should see some of the stares an albino gets in the middle of NASCAR country...espcecially when wearing french ren, viking garb , or Roman centurian gear at the wal-mart!
In the S.C.A. we call it "freaking the mundanes" and it's between a sport and an art form. When you go in a group to a steakhouse with say, a moor, coupela pirates and five or six buxom ladies in wench finery, the stares are legendary. So it's really nothing out of sorts for me...and when push comes to shove, we some BIG boys
