Confused Nick? Nothing cold about a 13 oz wool kilt. Or did I miss a joke? So olde....
Nice thing about working direct with a kiltmaker like Kathy Lare or Barb is that all I gotta do is tell the kiltmaker what tartan I want and they deal with the mill. No hassle, no risk.
Now I'm wondering...that tartan would make a sharp looking vest too.

I made a nice wool shirt out of it for my husband, and he's actually worn it in Antarctica half a dozen times. And one of the reasons that my daughter's kilt is the Antarctica tartan is that she's been to the Antarctic as well, so it has special meaning for her.

That has to be one beautiful shirt!
Never been to Antarctica. Have endeavored to avoid going political with this tartan. Guessing it might be okay to say that I strongly support the folks who commissioned the tartan and cloth.
While it is a beautiful tartan in its own right, I do have hopes that the tartan's beauty will be a conversation starter...though I can't imagine changing anyone's mind over whether our revolving rock is in danger or not should such a discussion evolve when I explain the tartan if asked.
Mostly, its just been love at first sight with this tartan. It could have been commissioned by a group honoring the survival of cockroaches through the eons and I'd still want a kilt made from it.

It'd be cool if one the vets in The Rabble happened to have this in their "fruit salad." I've never seen anyone with it myself.

Civilian scientists are also awarded the Antarctica Service Medal (http://www.tioh.hqda.pentagon.mil/Aw...%20MEDAL1.html). One of my husband's most treasured possessions is the Antarctica Service Medal he received for his part in a research expedition to Marie Byrd Land in 1977.
