Aye, in fact my great grandfather Blake wrote that the family was Scots-Irish. Only the lineage doesn't bear that out. The family went direct from Norfolk to New Hampshire in the middle 1600s. The man who came over was my great grandfather's five great grandfather so I'm sure was a gap in family lore...or a guess on his part.
Also, my great grandfather's mother was a Gardener, a common Irish name, and he could have been speaking of that line.
English Blakes for sure. Maybe married to Irish or Scots Irish.
And, it makes sense that the Lamonts held no sway in Norfolk England.

One last suggestion could be the New Hampshire tartan!
Now, I don't know if you like purple, but I will probably get one of these myself some day, since I spent my formative years there!

What a great idea! I didn't think of that. The family dug in to New Hampshire for many generations after arrival. They fought for New Hampshire in many wars. Thanks.
You're kidding about the purple right? I have a USA Kilts in Warrior tartan, a Kathy Lare hand sewn Isle of Skye, TWO pair of purple Lewis kilt hose from Matt, and Robert's leather RKilt in eggplant is at the top of my wish list...

You're welcome! I like the state tartans quite a bit, and like to promote them (the good ones anyway!) when I can. Glad you like the idea!

Actually, I was part-serious part kidding about the purple part! I thought you might be a fan based on other posts, but couldn't remember too clearly (being pretty new here).
I think it's a nice looking tartan, the NH one!

When/if you do get a NH kilt, I'll be looking for pictures (as always). You have quite the collection, so I have to guess it won't be too difficult to convince you to post one more!

I feel that many people are inclined to grasp the Scottish straw and conclude a connection without any/adequate research. I wonder how many English Hudsons, for example, have adopted Clan Donald and even developed feelings of enmity for the Campbells....
