Sorry to hear, Joseph. I live in a pretty "minority" neighborhood, so I know first hand how unexposed people can be to the wider world, even in a world capital like New York.

Well, I made the phone call to Bank of Scotland Houston Office and I was given the go-ahead to wear my kilt. When I called I only got to speak to an analyst, though, and she naively said, "You know, they don't wear the kilt every day here in the office." I couldn't help but laugh.

I would think the Bank of Scotland would encourage at least a few of its publicly visible personnel to wear the kilt.

The positive publicity surely would be "money in the bank".

Of course I realize it's a bank and conservative manners are the order of the day.

I would absolutely love to wear mine being that i work in construction. But OSHA regulations states that i cannot.

I was busking with my pipes in the north of england during a traveling holiday and was approached by a man who introduced himself as the "Evironmental health officer" he told me hed recieved a complaint about "noise" and that i was breaking the law, and I informed him that the noise regs for musical instruments only applies to amplified music, and if he could find an amplifier i would gladly turn it down. after a few moments thought he said i was breaking something called the "anti social behaviour act" as the decibell limit of my pipes exceeded a specified limit, when I asked him to show me his noise meter, complete with certificate of calibration he couldnt. Im a considerate busker and move along every 20 minutes. however it transpired the complainant was the ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND!!!

It would seem though, a great gimmick if done tastefully.

As long as the branches didn't begin to look like the tartan kitsch shops found up & down the Royal Mile... and not play over the recessed speakers that horrible touristy music that makes one's ears bleed.

I think that it is great to see such positive posts regarding kilts in the workplace. If we can stick together and approach this in a positive way, we just might get the kilt to commonplace attire. Thanks to all for the great ideas on how to approach my CEO.

As much as I love my kilts, but I am still not a big proponent in wearing kilt at work. I have done it in the past, but I am still not a big fan of it. I stopped after I have done it a few times. It is because I don't want to associate my kilts with my work. Work life is different than my other life. I still prefer dress shirts and trousers for work because I need to establish a certain image for my clients and the public I serve. I need to project a image that I can be trusted immediately. I cannot leave them a second to figure out what I am all about. I can loose credibility.

One of the rules about dressing for the office, is that you don't wear your out of office clothes to work. This is good rule to follow. Fellows, stop thinking about yourself and think about your team.
