Upstate?
I grew up in Ulster County but moved south many years ago. Seemed to me, there was "the city," and then there was "upstate."

Bingo, that's right where I am from! The beautiful Hudson River Valley.

Yes, that's the way I saw it as well. I still explain it that way.
Every so often I'll run into someone from "up" upstate (Buffalo, Syracuse, Lake Placid, etc) and they are quick to correct me. New Yorker's are a shy bunch.

Yes, but tell someone from Georgia that you're from New York and they immediately think you're from Manhatten. I actually grew up in Saugerties. Great place, just have no reason to go back anymore.

I lived in the Hudson River Valley for a time...lived in the Mohawk Valley as well...
I think Westchester County (where I currently live) is technically the Hudson River Valley also. or is it just parts of Westchester that are?
I also frequent Sterling Forest in Tuxedo, NY every summer. ;)

Ha ha, it's the thread that won't die!
Yepper, Westchester Co. ( I grew up in Rockland Co) falls into "upstate". Why not.
Geographically no, realistically yes.
Go figure.
I keep moving further and further upstate, currently detoured into the Poconos, right on the NY/NJ/PA border.
I am torn between NYC Kilt Nights and Twin Tiers Kilt Nights.
Oh, the problems of a Kilt Inspector!

You know Di, the SOKS crew has kilt nights as close as Niagara Falls, one of these days were gonna have to come down there or you're gonna have to come up here. Hey if I can make it down to Clinton NY to pick up a kilt ....

This is a great thread. I live in Delaware County, right between Ulster County, where kiltedsawyer is from and Broome County, where Woodsheal lives. I have friends in Westfield, Hyde Park and Utica, all of which were mentioned above. I spent last weekend in Batavia, also mentioned above.
But, Di already knew I lived in upstate NY.

Downtown Rochester here.
I didn't see anyone mention the Highbanks Gathering in July at Letchworth State Park so I thought I would chime in.
Its where I bought my first (and so far only) kilt.

Is that still going on? A few years ago, that was a big event, but it really took a nosedive 2-3 years back. Is the event sponsored again? (In the "big" days, it was a Feadan Or event, but it's not mentioned at their website.) Is there a web page for it, anywhere?

I rechecked and can't find anything either. I found out that I was looking at the 2007 schedule for Letchworth events.
Sorry. I am going to miss that one.
