I was brought up on the "off-white hose for dressing up" school of thought. The biggest Scottish shop in town's owner was a Scot who subscribed to this, so that's what I followed for many years. I can see why there are people on both sides of the issue, and I notice that in McMurdo's picture there are examples of both. I would never try to correct anyone on what hose they should be wearing, though. Nowadays, and thanks to this forum, I allow my own taste to be my guide, as you have yours. It seems you have good taste!

Very Interesting forum as recently in one of the many weddings I am part of this year . I am wearing a sherriffmuir doublet and I was thinking a wearing a pair of coloured hose to accent my U S Army kilt. When I mentioned this the brides father promptly stated "NO" that wasn't allowed that formal Highland dress requires white or cream hose!

I only wear my off white hose when I'm dressed up and wearing a white shirt. If casual or dressed up but in a colored shirt I always wear colored hose.

You know, Alan H is into white hose with formal wear. I don't think I would go as far as others are jokingly saying that white hose are for school girl's outfits.
I would tend to wear them for the more casual side of day wear, personally. Guess we're just all mixed up about it.

Hey Rollerboy,
If I understand correctly the gentlemen you are referring to, know they have quite the reputation among knowledgeable kilt folk for being opinionated, wrong, and often bullying customers with their most creative "ya gottas" to sell what it is they want to sell.
Me, I wear white kilt hose with white kilts for winter camo mostly. Wear colored kilt hose for everything else.

I also prefer coloured hose, and tend to wear white or Oatmeal only once in a while.

I'm thinking that it would look really good to match or at least get in the same color range with your hose and day wear jacket. Kind of tie it all together across the whole outfit. Ehh, what do I know...

I know exactly what you mean... about kilt police!
When I was recently at the Dunedin Highland games, one of the vendors was selling an off the rack kilt and accessories to a gent. She (the vendor who was not in a kilted skirt) started to spew out all kinds of garbage as to what kilt hose to purchase.
Well I kept my mouth shout because I don't like arguments and drama. I wanted to say something about how sharp it looks when you wear hose that match your shirt.
Another day perhaps..

Ron, I really like the outfit but don't the SUPER REFLECTIVE bits on your shoes sort of defeat the purpose of the camouflage?
