First, all my current kilts are in Robertson tartans - for my mother's maiden name and where my name comes from.
Ancient Hunting
Modern Hunting
Roberston Red
Maybe in the future:
Tennessee tartan, for my home
if there is one for Parkers - my last name, and as Parkers were essentially park rangers and gameskeepers for hunting grounds, and I love to hunt and be outside, it's rather fitting that I fulfill my surname in some way, and maybe should have a kilt for it as well.

There is a little bit of doubt in that way, but also on my father's side, the family line or history isn't "spoken" of and it's pretty much lost... I do know that I have many, many, many half relatives, most of which I have never met. I thought the half set Lamont tartan had an odd symbolic meaning in my life. I just don't feel that connection to my family line that others do...
It's funny, I lived with my grandmother for a while as a kid too. That was when my parents were working up to and going through their divorce. I don't think she had any Scottish roots though, what ever that means...
* I should add that I think it's great that a lot of the other folks have their family histories and so on worked out and that they are proud of their family connections.

Couldn't edit my original post...
....wanted to add to my list:
To "Wish List":
MACDONELL OF KEPPOCH - for my McReynolds/MacRanalds of Keppoch.
PERTHSHIRE DISTRICT (WEATHERED) - for my Scobee's.
To "Considering":
US ARMY - because I was an 11-Bravo (1/19th I.R.)

MODERN MACKAY - Matt Newsome made 4 yd box pleat.
I'm a member of Clan Mackay Society, plus I like the history of this tartan. It was first one registered by Chief of Mackay in 1819. Also the colors match descriptions of tartan worn by the Mackay Regt in the 30 Years War.
Wish List:
WEATHERED MACKAY - two reasons: 1) a rarely worn by members of Clan Mackay Society, & 2) it would make a great "hill climber" color.
PERTHSHIRE DISTRICT (MUTED) - the "homeland" of my Scobee's.
GREEN IRISH (SOLID) - for my Irish ancestors, & is the tartan chosen last year by the Clan O'Mórda society on St. Patrick's Day.
RED ULSTER - for my Ulster Scot kin.
MODERN MACKAY - Yes, a second one! One for dress & one for knocking about
Considering:
ANCIENT MACKAY - just because I like the colors!
MACKAY OF STRATHNAVER - an interesting looking tartan that is fast becoming a favorite of Clan Mackay members.
LOCHABER DISTRICT (ANCIENT or WEATHERED) - for my McReynolds kin from the Keppoch region.
There are others I'm considering, but will end my list here (for now)....

I too started with an off-the rack Black Watch and soon will come my custom
MacNeil of Barra Ancient (Great-grandmother) and am ordering from Matt Newsome an
Adams (my last name; box-pleat) and thinking of a
Gordon Ancient (Adams is a sept of Gordon) and also of a
Donegal (Mother's family) and might have to do a
Black Leather...just because!
