Box Pleat Kilt Question
Hi all,
Medium long story somewhat short: I'm expecting to have a little extra money and want to get my next 'nice' kilt. The tartan I want it in is Dyce, which is 'old and rare' Since I'm still on a budget I'm looking to get a 4 yrd Box Pleat as I understand it actually uses less material. The question is how many yards should I look at getting?
Feel free to PM me, and thanks.

My suggestion would be to contact Matt Newsome directly, and let him price the material in with your kilt.

I answered your email in terms of getting the kilt from me. However, if you are planning on making it yourself and you will be getting the medium weight cloth available from stock, you'd need to order 2 yards.
However, if you decide to go with the custom woven option I mentioned in heavy weight, you'd need to order 4 yards, as the cloth will come 29" wide.

Thanks for all the information Matt! Very helpful, very helpful indeed.

A caveat. If you're a REALLY big guy, then two yards of double-width *might* be cutting it close. I've got a 42 inch waist and a 48 inch butt and my California Tartan box-pleat is OK, and I have some "room to grow" but if I was 6 inches bigger around, it wouldn't work. If you're my size or smaller, you'll be fine.
